Well, the chicks awaiting part is actually ducklings awaiting. Mama muscovy has gotten serious about setting, but in about 35 days we should have baby ducklings. At least one goose is pretty serious. I say pretty serious because she is very protective, but not setting tight all the time yet.

Our first batch of broiler chicks arrived this morning.  There is a small hatchery near Utica, started by pastured poultry producers several years ago. The chicks cost a little more from them, but they get here the next day instead of two days, and it is supporting a more local business. They get the eggs from the same place I bought chicks before so the genetics are the same. They settled in very happily. Will add a photo if I make time tomorrow.

Had a busy day harvesting the plattsburgh.locallygrown.net order and seeding trays of lettuce, basil, broccoli, etc. Smelled fishy all day after fertilizing the onions and other seedlings with fish emulstion fertilizer this morning. The raininess is keeping us from jumping the gun too quickly. It is holding up the compost spreading. Once we get the compost on, planting will commence.
