We have had a challenge with quackgrass and Canada thistle on part of our field. I was given some used greenhouse plastic a couple years ago, so we spread the plastic out in hopes of at least setting the weeds back, if not outright killing them. We don’t have enough to do the whole area at one time, but got the worst area covered just before those days of high 80s into the 90s hit. It killed a lot of it, and definitely weakened the rest.
Here is where the plastic was, and was not. The area we moved it to had trenches from digging last year’s potatoes. The weeds on the mounds died quickly, but the weeds in the trenches have not – just enough cooler.
